FREELANCE EDITOR

UNION ASSISTANT EDITOR

VFX

BIO:

Matt V. Parenti is originally from Lake Villa, IL a small suburb just north of Chicago. He started cutting home videos on VHS tapes when he was 12 years old. That’s where this infectious seed of fascination took hold and never left. This calling led him to pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Cinema Art + Science from Columbia College Chicago.

After graduation in May of 2018, he uprooted to Los Angeles and landed an internship at Atlas Entertainment covering scripts for veteran producer Chuck Roven. Having shared the office space with Mosaic Media Group, Matt became the AV Editor for the neighboring company headed by comedy management legend Jimmy Miller. These connections ultimately led him on a path towards working on his first narrative feature.

After being mutually introduced to editors Kayla Emter & Martin Bernfeld, Matt was given a job as a Post-Production Assistant on their two respective films Hustlers and The Babysitter: Killer Queen. During peak pandemic, Matt hopped onto the Texas Chainsaw Massacre requel and also earned his way into the Local 700 Editor’s Guild. His first union role was an Apprentice Editor on The Machine, the feature adaptation of comedian Bert Kreischer’s viral story. Moving into the action realm, he transitioned to a VFX Assistant Editor role on John Wick: Chapter 4 before getting promoted to VFX Editor on the summer blockbuster Bad Boys: Ride or Die.

Currently as an Assistant Editor, Matt reached peak millennial nostalgia while working on Freakier Friday, the sequel to a film he grew up watching with his younger sisters dozens of times. The summer of 2025 saw him turn to television for the first time on HBO’s new comedy I Love LA created by Rachel Sennott. He wrapped the series 3 days before getting married on 10/3/25 to songwriter & vocalist Casey Cook. He’s excited for what the future has in store for 2026!
